ABOUT NIC HARDY

Background: I live in Houston, Texas by way of Memphis, Tennessee.  Growing up on soulful music, arguably the best BBQ in the world, and southern hospitality that can make any tourists feel like they were home, I was rooted in a rich, genuine culture that brought a sense of aliveness, awareness and curiosity.  My experiences growing up were extremely diverse, which unbeknownst at the time, laid the foundation for me to develop an acceptance of people, regardless of their background, or life experiences.  I’ve forever carried this with me and it is what has led me to pursue a career in counseling. Counseling allows me to work with people where they are, and connect at a time when they are less guarded, less pretentious, and less concerned about who they are supposed to be.

Experience: My counseling experience spans more than 10 years; but, real life-- and my fair share of mishaps--have equally added to my ability to establish meaningful connections, and help people through difficult times. After graduating from college with a degree in Business Management, and teaching English in Buenos Aires, Argentina - I worked as a Mental Health Specialist for one of the largest behavioral health providers in Memphis, TN. My experience continued at an outpatient mental health organization, where I provided individual and group therapy services for adults dealing with substance use. Here, I saw first-hand the life-changing benefits of counseling, and discovered my gift of connecting with people in a way that was authentic and nonjudgmental. After completing my Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Texas, Arlington – I moved to Houston, TX, where I work full-time as a therapist, while completing my Ph.D. at the University of Houston. Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, traveling, and exercising.

Who I Help: I provide individual and couples counseling as well as relationship coaching.  I work with people who have experienced anxiety, depression, perfectionism, divorce, relationship struggles, uncertainty, loss of any nature, and more.   I have a deep understanding of how hardships, fears and their results can threaten to keep us from our potential and successes —but, once confronted and once understood, we can overcome and grow from them.
